What is SpendController?

SpendController MobileXpense’s intuitive tool that automates expense control. It helps financial controllers by simplifying the tasks of controlling and validating expense reports. SpendController does this by improving the efficiency of and facilitating the approval process, thus lowering the operational cost of expense control. 

With the power of Optical Character Recognition (OCR) and Human Data Enhancement (HDE), it compares the information entered manually by a user with the data in the same fields, as it was extracted and digitised from a receipt or invoice by the OCR intelligence.  

How does SpendController work?

SpendController compares the manual and OCR-extracted data in any combination of these five fields:  

  • Date 

  • Gross amount 

  • VAT amount 

  • Merchant 

  • City.  

Customers can choose to activate an optional sixth field to display an indicator based on exclusion keywords. For example, if the word “minibar” were in a company’s exclusion list and identified on a user’s receipt, SpendController would display a red indicator for that expense. 

If the data in a field matches, SpendController displays a green indicator. If the data is unavailable for a certain field, it displays a grey indicator. And if the data does not match, it displays a red indicator. 

 

This visual green light/red light solution gives controllers an immediate overview of the quality of the expense data. It also makes it easy for them to identify any possible discrepancies, whether due to human error or attempted fraud.  

The result of this field comparison is stored to serve as input for the engine which proposes candidate expenses for automated approval (for expenses where all indicators are green).
